The Mystery of the Gospels: What Does it Mean to Be One With God?

Happy Sunday!
Today, I want to discuss something that’s been stirring in my spirit. It is about the beautiful mystery of oneness with God. A verse that highlights this union so beautifully is 2 Corinthians 13:14, which states:
“May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”
This verse is more than just a benediction—it’s a window into the heart of our triune God. As I’ve been spending time in John 17, I’m really in awe of the way Jesus prays for us to be one with Him and with each other—just as He is one with the Father. That intimacy, that oneness, is not just a theological idea; it’s a living invitation.
When Paul wrote to the church in Corinth, he wasn’t just closing a letter. He was reminding them—and us—of the full richness of our relationship with God:
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ — by which we are made righteous (Romans 3:22–24, Romans 5:1–2). Through Christ’s sacrifice, we are no longer bound by shame or sin. We’ve been brought near.
The love of God — which surrounds us and defines who God is. 1 John 3:1 says, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” And just a few verses later, 1 John 3:16 tells us, “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us.” God doesn’t just show love—God is love (1 John 4:8). His very nature is love, and it flows out to us without condition.
The fellowship of the Holy Spirit — this is the promise. The Spirit is not just a feeling but a presence, a Person who comforts, convicts, and walks with us. As Jesus promised in John 14:16–17, the Holy Spirit is our Advocate who lives in us and will be with us forever.
This verse in Corinthians paints a full picture of the God who invites us to dwell with Him. After salvation, we’re not left on our own—we are brought into ongoing fellowship with the Spirit of the living God. That’s the mystery and beauty I hold close: that a holy God, Creator of the universe, is within us. That we are chosen and appointed in Christ (Ephesians 2:10) for a life of intimacy with Him.
These truths are treasures I hold in my heart. And today, I encourage you to meditate on this too:You are loved by the Father, made righteous through the Son, and in fellowship with the Holy Spirit.
You are not alone. You are known. You are chosen. And you are deeply, deeply loved.
