Happy Wednesday, friends! Today, let’s spend some time in John 17—a powerful chapter where Jesus lifts His eyes to heaven and prays.
In John 17, Jesus is preparing to leave this world. He prays to the Father—not just for Himself, but for His disciples and for all future believers (that includes us!). This chapter is often called the High Priestly Prayer, and it reveals so much about the love and character of God.
One verse that stopped me in my tracks is:"Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth." – John 17:17Let that sink in. Sanctify means to set apart, to make holy. Jesus is asking the Father to set us apart by truth—and then He tells us what that truth is: God’s Word.
Then, in verses that follow, Jesus prays for unity among all believers:"...that they may be one as we are one—I in them and You in Me—so that they may be brought to complete unity." – John 17:22-23
These verses stand out to me because they show what matters to Jesus: truth, holiness, and unity. He was one with the Father, and He wants us to experience that same closeness—not only with God, but with one another.
We, the Bride of Christ, are called to be set apart—holy, united, and rooted in love.We reflect God’s character to the world, not just through right beliefs, but through how we walk in love and support one another. It’s a mystery, but it’s also our mission.
So today, I encourage you: Take some quiet time and read John 15–17. Let the words of Jesus wash over you. Ask the Spirit to reveal what it means to live sanctified by truth and united in love.
But don’t stop there—wake up to the truth Jesus came to reveal. The invisible God, who had deep communion with Jesus, who raised Him from the dead, now lives in us. He is here.
We have access to the Spirit of Truth—the Holy Spirit—our Advocate, Helper, and Reminder of all Jesus has taught:“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” – John 14:26
And we also have the gift of prayer—the essential channel of communication with our God.Prayer strengthens, empowers, and keeps us connected to the One who sees, hears, and answers.
Let’s model these spiritual rhythms. Let’s pray about everything.“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” – Philippians 4:6
Prayer:
God help me walk in truth today.Lord help me understand your Spirit and lean on you.
Your word says that if we ask for wisdom, you can supply it.
Teach me what your word says.
Help me to silence the noise of the world.
Allow me to stay close to the heart of God.
Father God ignite a fire and desire, and love of you, Your Word, and your people.
Give me a heart of prayer Lord.
