This week we are examining letting our light shine as stated in Matthew 5.
Letting your light shine begins with living in a way that reflects God’s glory and love. This requires intentionality, discipline, and surrender to His will. Here are practical steps rooted in Scripture to guide your journey:
1. Fear the Lord (Proverbs 1:7)
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge." Cultivating awe for God starts with reflecting on the sacrifice of Jesus, who rescued us from darkness and brought us into the Kingdom of Light.
Practice gratitude: Daily thank God for His mercy, grace, and blessings in your life.
Constant prayer: Talk to God about every decision, challenge, and joy. Let Him guide your path.
Invite the Holy Spirit: Begin each day by asking the Holy Spirit to fill your heart, guide your thoughts, and strengthen your actions.
2. Flee from Sin ACTIVELY (Hebrews 12:1)
"Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles."
Identify your struggles: Be honest about the sins that keep you from growing in faith and seek God’s help in overcoming them.
Have accountability. Find people who you can be open and honest with, and that will be honest with you. Remember iron sharpens iron.
Guard your heart and mind: Make choices that honor God in what you watch, listen to, and do.
Create an atmosphere of worship: Use worship music and Scripture to fill your home and mind with reminders of His presence.
3. Bear with One Another in Love (Ephesians 4:2-3)
"Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love."
Encourage others: Send a message, pray for a friend, or offer a helping hand to someone in need.
Forgive freely: Let go of grudges and choose to extend grace, just as God has forgiven you.
Build community: Surround yourself with fellow believers who encourage and challenge you in your faith.
4. Love God with All Your Heart and Mind (Matthew 22:37)
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind."
Focus on heavenly things (Colossians 3:2): Fix your thoughts on what is true, noble, and pure. Meditate on Scripture daily.
Make decisions with eternity in mind: Ask yourself how your choices reflect your love for God and His kingdom.
Devote time to Him: Set aside intentional time for prayer, Bible study, and worship.
5. Shine Brightly in the Community (Secular & Faith)
Living as a light means staying connected with others who are also walking in faith.
Join a Bible study: Participate in regular group studies to learn and grow together.
Serve others: Volunteer in your church or community as an expression of God’s love.
Be a witness: Share your faith through your words and actions, letting others see Christ in you. (Find a way that makes sense to you- social media, in person, or other ways)
By living with a reverence for God, rejecting sin, loving others, and focusing on eternal things, you allow His light to shine through you, drawing others to Him. Let this be your prayer and pursuit each day.
